Under the banner of SSYM, the Nilkanth Pipe Band and Lazium stand as vibrant symbols of cultural pride and musical excellence at our Mandir.

Established in 2005 with a modest number of members playing drums and Lazium, the group has grown significantly alongside our expanding congregation, attracting new talent to enhance performances during the Mandir’s major Utsavs.

During the Mandir’s construction phase in 2012, a group of dedicated boys began mastering their musical skills on recorders, later advancing to bagpipes. Their dedication intensified as they prepared for the Murti Pran Pratistha Mahotsav, with both the Lazium group and Pipe Band committing to regular rehearsals. This commitment culminated in the official launch of the Nilkanth Pipe Band during the Nilkanth Mahotsav – Murti Pratistha in January 2013.

Today, the Nilkanth Pipe Band boasts a talented ensemble comprising 18 bagpipe players, 6 snare drum players, 2 bass drum players, and 4 tenor drum players. Supported by over 100 boys and girls who contribute to the Lazium performances at major events, the band has woven itself into the cultural fabric of our community.

The Pipe Band takes centre stage at all major Mandir events and has collaborated with Mandirs across Australia for international performances. Their crowning achievement was performing with other Mandirs at the 200-year anniversary of Bhuj Mandir in 2023 in India. Beyond temple grounds, the band also actively engages in diverse community events, enriching lives with their music and spreading cultural joy far beyond our Mandir’s walls.
